Can we get our own agency recommended by ChatGPT? A public experiment
Week 0, 12 October 2026: ChatGPT named TargetGuru in 0 of the 15 questions we're targeting. Google's AI Mode: also 0. We publish the score every week.
On 12 October 2026 we asked ChatGPT the fifteen questions we most want to win. It named TargetGuru in none of them. Google's AI Mode didn't either. That's our starting score: 0 of 15.
We sell getting businesses recommended by ChatGPT. We've done it for our own: GetLean Clinic and Senior Living Malaysia. But a clinic and a care-home directory are not an agency in one of Singapore's most crowded markets. So we're doing it again, for TargetGuru, in public. Same fifteen questions, every week, whatever the result.
The score
| Week | Date | ChatGPT | Google AI Mode | What we saw |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 0 | 12 Oct 2026 | 0 of 15 | 0 of 15 | Starting point. Asked about us by name, ChatGPT describes what we do, with correct prices |
How we ask: chatgpt.com and Google's AI Mode, logged out, from Singapore, a fresh chat for every question, the exact same wording every week. One answer per question. A question counts if we're named, or if one of our pages is cited as a source. Answers vary from run to run, so one week's score is a snapshot; the trend is what matters.
Why these fifteen questions
We're not chasing "best digital marketing agency in Singapore". That question is decided by lists, reviews and maps, and dozens of agencies are fighting over it. GetLean taught us to go narrow: it wins questions about an online clinic and a programme designed to end, not "best clinic". So we picked the questions only we fit: getting recommended by ChatGPT, at a small-business price, with our own results as proof. Some use the industry's name for this work, GEO (generative engine optimisation), because that's how buyers type it.
Eleven are questions where we want ChatGPT to name us. Four are how-to questions where we want it to quote our articles.

These are the names and sources each engine gave on 12 October. We're not endorsing or criticising anyone; it's simply what came back.
What we learned from week 0
ChatGPT knows what we do. Asked what TargetGuru is, ChatGPT called us "a Singapore-based digital marketing agency that helps businesses become more visible in ChatGPT and other online channels", with our prices right. Asked who founded us, it found both our names but said it couldn't confirm them.
On how-to questions, almost nobody in Singapore is being cited. For questions 12 to 15, ChatGPT cited OpenAI's own pages, once Google's business-profile page, or nothing at all. Google's AI Mode cited blogs, LinkedIn, Medium, Reddit, YouTube and TikTok. That's the gap our articles are written for.
The two engines barely agree. For questions 1 and 6, ChatGPT and Google named entirely different agencies. Winning one doesn't mean winning the other, which is why we track both.
The low end of price is crowded. Asked what it costs to show up in ChatGPT, ChatGPT quoted other agencies' prices, one at S$690 a month; Google quoted retainers of S$2,500 to S$8,000+. Asked for an agency under S$1,000 a month, each engine named at least one that publishes a price that low. Ours are public.
What we're doing about it
The same thing we do for clients: making TargetGuru clear, checkable and consistent, on our own website and everywhere ChatGPT looks. The specific changes are the work clients pay us for, so this page reports what ChatGPT says each week, not the steps.
What we learn along the way goes into our articles, such as why ChatGPT recommends your competitor and how to check what ChatGPT says about your business. If you'd like it done for your business, see AI Visibility.
What we expect
Our honest guess, so you can hold us to it:
- Questions about us by name: ChatGPT already describes what we do and what we charge. Next is naming both founders with confidence. GetLean's price change showed up in ChatGPT within four days.
- The questions where we want to be named (1 to 11): a fair chance on some of them within six weeks. That's how GetLean won: specific questions first.
- The how-to questions (12 to 15): Google may cite our articles sooner than ChatGPT does, because Google already cites blog posts for these and ChatGPT, so far, cites only OpenAI's and Google's own pages, or nothing.
Our forecast is 3 to 6 of 15 on ChatGPT by the end of November. We could be wrong in either direction, and we'll publish the score either way.
